The West End’s Famous Armory, located on Dexter Park

Just west of Downtown and south of North Providence and Pawtucket, the West Side of Providence is best known for the Federal Hill neighborhood and its dozens of fine Italian restaurants and cafes. Various neighborhood associations and investors have made loft conversions, hip art galleries, quality ethnic restaurants and night clubs commonplace throughout the West Side in recent years. The Providence Preservation Society has also played an important role in revitalizing the history and architecture of the West Side, and the culture here is hard to miss as you will find frequent open artist studio nights and block parties hosted throughout the West Side neighborhoods. Young professionals have been flocking to this part of the city not only for its proximity to downtown, highways and public transit, but also for its exciting, new urban feel and its strong sense of community.

The Downtown Providence River Front

Located in the center of Providence, Downtown, or “Downcity,” is the cultural and economic heart of the city. Rhode Island’s public transit system and central train station provide for easy travel to and from the city. Throughout the summer and into the fall, Waterfire brings the light and warmth of Rhode Island’s diverse cultures together along the banks of the Providence River with live musical performances, dancing and gondola rides alongside the dramatic fire bowls set just above the still waters. A melting pot of architectural history, Downtown is also home to the Arcade building (America’s first enclosed shopping center), City Hall and several Federal buildings, as well as modern luxury condominiums, artist spaces and galleries. The presence of Johnson and Whales University and its budding culinary artists makes for magnificent dining experiences throughout the city. ~ Pawtucket ~

Award-Winning Bayley Lofts, Located in the Pawtucket Arts District

At the northeastern tip of Rhode Island, a new generation of creative thinkers and artisans has come together for a rebirth of one of Rhode Island’s greatest cities. Pawtucket is the first city to welcome visitors to Rhode Island as they travel along interstate 95 and its rich and diverse architectural history is made apparent even before departing from the highway. It is in this departure from the beaten path and into the rich culture of Pawtucket that one falls in love with what this town has been and what this town is taking action to become. The recently revived Arts & Entertainment district, in Pawtucket’s downtown, is now home to hundreds of local artists in modern renovated loft spaces and meticulously restored homes. The cultural resurgence of the area is embodied in the city’s frequent festivals and events.
